Description

FGCU Library is partnering with the Department of Language and Literature to bring students an exciting new workshop. We are proud to present screenwriter, playwright and director Andre Degas!

Films draw on dramatic structure. It takes many artists in various departments and thousands and millions of dollars and years of labor to create an hour and a half of a captivating movie. But none of this can happen until the pen hits the paper.

In four hours you will be introduced to the fundamentals of screenplay writing; finding your premise and crafting a logline and a synopsis. From watching classical film clips we will learn about the invaluable tool called the 'beat sheet" and how that can shape the beginning, middle, and end of your structure. We will study techniques and methods on how compelling protagonists with deep driving desires or objectives can best be understood through action and even via “influence” characters that are in conflict with them. Bring writing devices and be prepared to unleash your own cinematic mind.

It is recommended that you view or review the film: The Wizard Of Oz.
