The Mandela Washington Fellowship Leadership Institute is hosted at FGCU by the Center for the Study of Race, Gender, Ethnicity, and Culture from June 21, 2023 – July 30, 2023. This cohort of 25 Fellows is comprised of young leaders from Africa interested in learning about U.S. best practices and experiences from leaders in various industries to effect positive changes in their home countries.
This is a professional development program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by IREX. The Leadership in Civic Engagement Institute is tailored to Fellows who are civically engaged and serving the public through non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, or volunteerism. The Institute exposes Fellows to civic engagement in the United States while building technical and leadership capacity in areas such as advocacy, strategic planning, organizational development, and the intersection of civil society with business and government. The Institute will encourage Fellows to develop innovative and practical plans to expand their engagement as citizens in their own communities and to work with others in this area.
